I'm next heading to the quaint historic city of Kilkenny. Now Kilkenny is an interesting case study for how a location can establish itself on a tourism map. In the mid 1960's Kilkenny became based by the Kilkenny Design workshops. The semi state body brought about to proper the good craft design in Ireland. The workshops were set up in the stables and coach houses of the impressive Kilkenny castle. In the mid 1980 s the design workshops were privatised and in an interesting twist of fate was taken over by former employee Kathleen Moran. Kathleen Moran 'I worked for the original company Kilkenny Design at workshops and that was a great experience and it was privatised I saw the opportunity to maybe to put in a bin to become and have my own business. I was just an employee so I didn't have any money but I had a friendly bank manager and I worked on him and I was very fortunate that he gave me the funds and I took a risk but I had a great fate in the product and the place. When I took over in the mid 1980's we would have had 5 or 6 staff. We now have over 30 staff, we would have had 14 or 15 pottery companies we now have up to 200 suppliers all over Ireland. We have extended the square footage of the shops maybe twice the amount and put in a fantastic restaurant upstairs overlooking the castle with beautiful old beams. So, we have put a lot of investment in but we have done it very much true to the integrity of the building'. NarratorKilkenny is now well established as Ireland's craft capital. This has a flow on effect to other local business; the constant influx of tourists means Kilkenny boasts some of Ireland's finest restaurants and an accommodation. Kathleen believes a lot of Kilkenny's charm also comes from the fact the city has maintained its historic link to the days when it was a medieval merchant town.Kathleen We, the rest of Ireland were pulling down there lovely old shops fronts and putting up very modern plastic ones. Kilkenny were retaining all of theirs and they were retaining and making sure that the locals retained things that linked us to our past and heritage and that was something we should be proud of, where the bigger cities is were modernising. Kilkenny has modernised but has managed to retain wonderful shop fronts, the old lane ways so that has been very good for Kilkenny. There is something wonderful about hand made product, a product that's seen through right from the beginning to the end by the same person. I think people are kind of going to suffer from chain store fatigue or fatigue from seeing the same thing. No matter what country you go to now you see the same product. What's wonderful about Irish craft is how unique and how different it is and how beautifully made it is and we have a very high standard of craft in Ireland across of different areas and I think that is something very special that we have in Ireland. It is something, that I think the wheel will come full circle and people are going to come back to things that are made with tradition ..

Paul: I was always frightened of classical music, and I never wanted to listen to it because it was Beethoven and Tchaikovsky and some big words like that, Schoenberg...You know, I always thought...I mean someone like a taxi driver the other day had some sheet music of a Mozart thing and I said What´s that you know, and he said: Oh, I would say that´s the high class stuff, you won´t like that. He said: no, no, you won´t like that . I said: but what is it? you know, he said: oh no, you won´t like it . You know, it´s high class there, it´s very high class, high brand. And that kind of way I always used to think of it, I used to think: well, you know, that is, that´s very clever all that stuff, and it isn´t, you know, it´s just exactly what´s going on in Pop at the moment. Pop music is the classical music of now.People just take our music and, you know, in a line and we just sort of say yeah . She was just seventeen , and they just...they read everything into that, you know, she was a seventeen year old nymphomaniac working on the streets of Broadway, but you know, all we meant is she´s just seventeen, but it might mean all the other as well, I don´t know, you know, I have no idea if there´s any Aeolian cadences and, you know, Miasmic climaxes and all of that. And we were the last people to know about our songs, because the Pop world never heard the Pop world as such, ´cause we can´t, you know, it´s like if you look at a snapshot of yourself and you´re looking at what tie you were wearing or whether you are looking nice in the snapshot, but anyone else would just take the snapshot and say: oh, that´s good, that´s a snapshot, it´s only, you know, it´s alright .We really just always think of ourselves as just happy little songwriters, just little rockers, you know, just playing in a rock group, but it gets more important than that after you´ve been over to America and you´ve...got knighted.And when we were touring, when it was at the sort of peak of hysteria, instead of just thinking oh , you know, that´s nice, we could have just thought: aha! , click! , you know, let´s use this, and for evil...you know. There´s no desire in any of our heads to sort of take over the world, you know, that was Hitler, that´s what he wanted to do. There is, however, a desire to get power in order to use it for good.Indian: The whole world movement has to be a cooperative enterprise ahahaha...John: I don´t know what level he´s on, but we had a nice holiday in India and came back rested to play Business-man . Lying lazily on a bend of the Macon river, and in great contrast with its lively neighbor Thailand, which spreads beyond the opposite shore, the city of Vientiane is the peaceful capital of sleepy Laos. This big monument, built in 1960, and inspired by the arch of triumph, in Paris, was erected with American funds which were given to the city to build an airport. But the heart and core of the nation is That Luan, the great golden stupa. Moving north from the capital city the country is soon dominated by mountain chains, with peaks that reach a height of 2800m. Before completely entering the maze of rugged mountains, lies the peaceful town of Van Vieng, one of the main tourist destinations of Laos. Its fame among travelers is not undeserved, since the town lies in a beautiful valley, cultivated with rice and vegetables, and surrounded by impressive and mighty limestone mountains. A little north of Van Vieng, the countryside becomes even more spectacular, with huge limestone peaks rising from the valleys, almost as if they are warning the visitors of the inhospitable mountains lying ahead. Over the centuries, these mountainous regions have become the home of nomadic tribes migrating from Tibet to China. As a result of their geographical isolation, these people have preserved their ancient traditions. Hanoi, the peaceful capital city of the socialist republic of Vietnam. Still conveys a small town feeling, despite of its population of 3.5 million. The most impressive and well known natural marvel of Vietnam, is the immense Ha Long Bay. Only a few hours drive from Hanoi, it is one of the main tourist attractions of the country. Ha Long is also the location of one of the James Bond movies, but as the Vietnamese government didn't release the necessary permits, the shooting was done in Southern Thailand. The hills of Tam Cock, situated south of Hanoi, have similar origins to Ha Long's islands. Here, rock formations rise from the rice fields instead of emerging from the sea, thus giving life to an enchanting mystical atmosphere. To the eye of the stranger these pictures could look like a reptile show. In fact, it is a restaurant whose specialty is snake. Buddhism has molded the culture of the peoples of Vietnam for thousands of years. Mass pilgrimages, to sites of particular religious importance, take place on a regular basis. .
