He was born and raised in The Bronx, NY in 1929. As a kid, he started to develop an interest towards photography, music and almost every existent form of art, becoming a precocious visitor of the MoMA, which would become one of his passions and inspirations; a sanctuary he would visit countless times during his youth. He also loved playing chess, probably due to his methodical, meticulous and perfectionist personality.
His admiration for film-making led him to devote his life to direct, produce and write scripts for movies.
His childhood hobbies played an important role in the process of becoming one of the most influential film directors in history. Thus he would be extremely precise when directing, innovating in the newborn art of special effects and frequently using classical music in his soundtracks.
In his filmography we may discover many different subjects: from the Cold War -"Dr. Strangelove"- to psychological thrillers such as "The Shinning". From science fiction films foreseeing the future -"2001: A Space Odyssey "- to a serious insight into the complex world of love and sex, like "Eyes Wide Shut".
Raved about and deeply admired all over the world, most of his films are now considered the work of a genious. And his influence still lingers on the current art of film-making.
